Hampta Pass Trek is a popular name when it comes to trekking around Manali. This is an epic trek which gives you the chance to appreciate the topography of both Alpine and Trans-Himalayas as you cross over from Kullu to Lahaul-Spiti over 7 days.
Experience walking in open, forested valleys full of pine, silver oak, and maple trees. As you go higher, the forest makes way for broad meadows and pastures full of wildflowers. With favourable weather, you even expect to trek through a glaciated valley in the final stages.
TREK SYNOPSIS
From a place called Jobra, the trek route passes 3km north along the Hampta River after which you turn eastwards to reach Balu-ra-Ghera – the base of Hampta Pass. Balu-ra-Ghera is a beautiful campsite beside the Hampta River, and it takes an additional 4 hours to reach the pass.
At Balu-ra-Ghera campsite, you are surrounded by snowy peaks and hanging glaciers from all sides. Mount Indrasan and Deo Tibba stand to the south, Indra Kila and Pauri-ra-Jot to the north, and the Bhrigu Tung range closes the valley behind you to the west. The spectacular Shea Gohru Massif appears at a short distance to the east in front of you.
A sharp descent from Hampta Pass leads you to a high-altitude mountain valley called Shea Gohru – a valley formed by the glacier coming down from the north flanks of Mount Indrasan. A rivulet originates from the glacier and flows north-east to meet the mighty Chandra River near Chhatru in Spiti. Following this rivulet, you exit the valley to reach Chhatru, a roadhead on the Manali-Kaza road.
