The trek takes about three hours, starting from Kulang village on the way to Rohtang. It’s an uphill walk of about one hour and then a traverse walk of two hours through dense forest.

If you are a traveller who likes to take it slow, no problem! Our qualified guides will match your pace and accompany you on the well-marked trail.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL?

The forest around Moridugh has a variety of trees and shrubs typical to this altitude in the Himalayas and is also teeming with diverse bird species. Chances of spotting the region’s largest mammal – the Himalayan brown bear and the vibrant Himalayan monal pheasant are quite high here.

The snow-covered Dhauladhar range visible across the valley is mesmerising to witness. Other mountain peaks and ridges also stand out in bold relief against the skyline here. Trip Details

At an altitude of 11000ft and further up from Moridugh, Pandu Ropa is a one of the legendary summer camps in Manali. Local folklore links this place to the Pandavas—the heroes of the epic Indian saga Mahabharata.

Pandu Ropa literally means “paddy fields of the Pandavas”. On the top of a wide mountain ridge, a marshy flat patch between two small hills offers a perfect impression of paddy fields. Even the weeds growing in these fields look like green paddy plants.

WHY IS IT SPECIAL?

In the Himalayas at a certain altitude the forests disappear to reveal open meadows and pastures. In summer and monsoon season these meadows transform into covers of lush green velvet grass. In autumn, the pastures turn brown-yellow exhibiting maturity and fulfilment in nature. And in winter, the same meadows become an expanse of pure white snow.

It is not possible to stay at Pandu Ropa in winter, but the colours of summer, monsoon and autumn can be cherished by spending a few days at this summer camp.

EXCELLENT SCENERY 📷

You can expect spectacular views in all directions from Pandu Ropa. Manali is visible down in the valley to the west, a panoramic view of Kullu Valley appears to the south, and to the north Hanuman Tibba, Shetidhar, Ghepan Peak and the Chanderbhaga range loom at a distance.

However, the most splendid climax appears to the east. The beautiful twin peaks of Indrasan and Deo Tibba are seen at arms distance, while the verdant Hampta Valley sprawls below you. It’s blissful to sit on the ridge here and behold this outstanding Himalayan scene without any interruptions.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL

Experienced trekkers can reach the Pandu Ropa camp in about six hours.

You can can halt midway and take a break at Moridugh, from where it’s another three hours to reach Pandu Ropa camp.

If you prefer to take your time and trek slowly, no problem! Our qualified guides will match your pace and accompany you on the trail, revealing stories and tidbits about the flora and fauna found here.
