The Beas Kund Trek is one of Manali’s most popular and scenic treks which can be completed by anyone with reasonable fitness levels. Just like the Beas River, which nourishes and energises the Kullu valley, the trek to Beas Kund – the river’s source – is a refreshing walk through pure Himalayan forests and mountain scenery.
Beas Kund is a sacred pool and high-altitude lake on the extreme north of Kullu–Manali valley. The lake remains covered by heaps of snow accumulated by avalanches till late June.
Basically, text books claim that the Beas springs from Rohtang Pass. However, geologists believe that the Beas River actually originates from the glaciers at Beas Kund.
This holy place is considered to be the meditation ground of Rishi Beas, the author of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Beas Kund lies 15 KM from Solang – the last village on the northern edge of Kullu-Manali valley.
Here it is at Beas Kund that the spectacular ranges of Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal tie a knot to close the valley. The place is also a base camp for climbing mountain peaks such as Hanuman Tibba, Friendship, Ladakhi and Shitidhar.
Beas Kund is an easy trek that is completed by most people having reasonable fitness.
